Shao Lin kung fu is from The Shao Lin temple, a group of Chinese Buddhist monasteries famed for their long association with Buddhism and martial arts, and is The greatest of the temple boxing systems.
Shao Lin means "Small Forest". Famous temple in Northern China (Hunan Provence) where Bodidharma first taught monks forms and movements in a system of martial arts. Northern styles of Shao lin Chuan are hard, external and linear, while southern styles are known more for soft, internal and circular and flashy movements. Many other systems are based on this system.
